Adphos dryer for the production of battery electrodes put into operation

In September, a pilot production line for drying Li battery electrodes was successfully commissioned at a leading Asian battery manufacturer. Here, the producer relies on the Adphos BearLite (Battery electrode advanced rapid Light Initiated Thermal Emission) technology.
The BearLite drying technology developed by Adphos processes and dries wet electrode coatings in less than ten seconds and is extremely energy-efficient: the power requirement of standard convection dryers is reduced by more than 85 percent. The stand-alone solution installed at the Adphos customer shows best production results without cracking. At a wet coating thickness of 280 µm, which corresponds to a coating thickness of 110 µm in the dry state, the coating adheres properly to the substrate. This is achieved with a total drying time within eight seconds.
The BearLite drying system can also be incorporated into a combined drying process with conventional hot air, in which case it represents a highly efficient booster solution with low additional space requirements. The booster application is connected upstream of the convection dryer and results in a twofold increase in production. Adphos' customer is extremely satisfied with the results achieved and is already heralding a turning point in Li-battery production.
