The portfolio of ASA styrene copolymers from Ultrapolymers is being expanded with a new, highly UV-resistant grade. It ensures permanently attractive surfaces with high resistance to weathering.

Plastics distributor Ultrapolymers has added an ASA grade to its extensive portfolio of styrene copolymers that is characterized by its significantly increased UV resistance. The new Luran S variant from Ineos Styrolution is based on the specially developed stabilizer additive package SPF60, which significantly improves weather resistance. Like all Luran S ASA polymers (acrylonitrile-styrene-acrylate), the variant with the new additive is suitable for demanding outdoor applications, for example in the automotive and construction industries. It combines high surface quality, impact strength and chemical resistance with good color stability at elevated temperatures and UV exposure.

According to the manufacturer, the new SPF60 additive package specially developed for Luran S and the Luran S ECO variant, which is based on renewable raw materials, provides even greater resistance in applications with high-gloss surfaces. This means that automotive exterior applications such as cladding, rear-view mirror shells or front ends are among the preferred areas of use. Typical construction applications include wall paneling or roof elements, and housings for electric garden tools such as robotic lawnmowers also benefit from the further development. Product Manager Joshua Heck comments: "The growing trend in the automotive industry towards large-area front-end designs in particular is creating an increased demand for components with high-quality, glossy surfaces that retain their attractiveness even during long-term exposure to a wide range of environmental influences. With the SPF60 additive package, Luran S is now setting a new benchmark here, enabling processors to meet even the most stringent OEM requirements. With extensive material and processing knowledge, Ultrapolymers helps its customers to develop applications that retain their visual appeal for years and maintain their mechanical properties over their entire service life."
