Hubergroup showcases bio-based UV oligomers at ECS 2025

Hubergroup Chemicals is presenting sustainable, bio-based UV oligomers for coatings at the European Coatings Show 2025 (ECS). They are suitable for wood and plastic surfaces and consist of 50% bio-based carbon.
Hubergroup Chemicals, a specialist in resins and chemicals for the coatings industry, is launching its latest innovation at this year's European Coatings Show: sustainable, bio-based UV oligomers for advanced coatings. These pioneering resins, developed for wood and plastic surfaces, offer excellent reactivity and stain resistance and contain an impressive 50% bio-based carbon content. The use of monomeric acrylates is subject to increasing regulatory restrictions, while the demand for sustainable, bio-based raw materials in the paint and coatings industry continues to grow, as demonstrated by companies such as IKEA. In response to this, the Hubergroup uses sugar alcohols such as sorbitol and xylitol as building blocks. These substances are not only available in large quantities, but also offer advantages over conventional bio-based polyols due to their high functionality and rigidity. This enables the development of high-performance coatings that meet modern sustainability requirements.
Justus Back, Innovation Manager at Hubergroup, will present this further development in his lecture "Sugar Alcohol Building Blocks for Sustainable and Regulatory-Compliant UV Oligomers with a Superior Bio-Based Carbon Content" at the European Coatings Show on March 24, 2025 in Nuremberg at 16:00 in Hall Copenhagen. In his presentation, Justus Back will show how Hubergroup Chemicals has successfully developed innovative bio-based UV oligomers. He will also highlight their promising properties for coating formulations for wood and plastic surfaces, including their resistance to critical test substances such as red wine and mustard, and how they expand the chemical toolbox for more sustainable radiation-curing resins. Hubergroup Chemicals will be exhibiting at the European Coatings Show 2025 on stand 322 in Hall 3A.
