DIN EN 17059 defines safety requirements for electroplating and anodizing systems in accordance with the Machinery Directive (2006/42/EC). Five years after coming into force, a regular revision will soon begin, in which interested experts can get involved.

DIN EN 17059 defines safety requirements for electroplating and anodizing systems in accordance with the Machinery Directive (2006/42/EC). The standard specifies relevant requirements of Annex I of the EU Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC for machinery placed on the market for the first time in the European Economic Area (EEA) in order to facilitate proof of compliance with these requirements. Five years after coming into force, a regular revision will soon begin, in which interested experts can contribute to the German mirror committee, as announced by the Zentralverband Oberflächentechnik e.V. (ZVO).

This European standard is applicable to electroplating and anodizing systems and, in addition to the requirements of the Machinery Directive, also describes procedures for testing and measuring these requirements, the marking of the machine and the minimum requirements for information on operation. This standard contains the German version of EN 17059:2018 prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 271 "Surface treatment equipment - Safety" of the European Committee for Standardization (CEN). The national interests in the preparation of this standard are represented by Committee NA 060-09-46 AA "Electroplating equipment" in the "General air technology" section of the DIN Mechanical Engineering Standards Committee (NAM). Representatives of manufacturers and users of electroplating systems as well as the employers' liability insurance associations are involved in the drafting process. Further experts from the ranks of ZVO members are welcome. Interested parties should first contact Dr. Andreas Voßberg from the BGHM (Tel +49 6131 802-11938 and Andreas.Vossberg(at)bghm.de) and then contact Dr. Martin Riester from the VDMA (Tel +49 69 6603 1290 and martin.riester(at)vdma.org) to register.
