X-Rite launches the Judge LED light booth for a smooth transition to LED-based visual color matching. This enables LED-based color matching while maintaining quality without interrupting operations.

X-Rite Incorporated, a color science and technology company, has launched the Judge LED light booth, which was developed as part of the transition from fluorescent lighting to energy-efficient LED lighting for accurate visual color assessment. The new light booth features the latest LED technology to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and to help brand owners and suppliers make a smooth transition to LED-based color matching while maintaining quality without disrupting operations.

Conversion to LED as a challenge in color matching

The global shift to LED lighting to increase energy efficiency and comply with government regulations is a new challenge for many industries such as textiles, automotive, paint and coatings, plastics and packaging that rely on accurate color. Fluorescent and LED light sources have different spectral energy distributions, which can have a strong impact on color perception. To ensure consistent color throughout the supply chain - from design to production to retail sales - visual matching programs must integrate LED standards into color workflows. "The Judge LED light booth is a future-proof solution for brand owners and manufacturers looking to transition from fluorescent lighting to LED lighting to comply with new energy regulations," said Albert S. Laforet, Director of Strategic Projects at X Rite. "Our custom-designed LED light sources are intended to match the spectral energy distribution of older fluorescent lamps, including U30, U35, CWF and TL84, as closely as possible and ensure seamless integration into color workflows. This enables companies to meet regulatory requirements, ensure consistent color and prevent color deviations before final assembly of a product."

Fast, reliable and consistent LED color matching

The Judge LED light booth provides accurate and consistent color matching with seven different light sources that simulate a variety of lighting conditions. The seven light sources can be selected from a wide range of industry-leading standard illuminants, including LED D50, D65, LED-B2 3000K, LED 3500K, LED-B3 4000K, UV, A, CWF LED, TL84 LED, U30 LED and U35 LED.
