ABB introduces its new RB 1000i-S paint atomizer for efficient and sustainable painting processes. The new paint atomizer, which is mounted on an ABB robot, increases application efficiency in vehicle painting by up to 10 percent and reduces paint losses by at least 30 percent.

ABB has added the innovative RB 1000i-S paint atomizer to its portfolio of painting solutions. The new paint atomizer, which is mounted on an ABB robot, improves application efficiency by ten percent. What's more, compared to its predecessor, the RB 1000i, the RB 1000i-S can reduce paint losses by at least 30 percent and significantly reduce CO2 emissions. This also results in considerable financial savings. "The major car manufacturers have committed to building climate-neutral factories by 2035 and are doing everything they can to achieve this goal," emphasizes Marc Segura, Head of the Robotics Division at ABB. "ABB is continuously developing products and services that help companies achieve their sustainability goals. The newly launched RB 1000i-S is just one example of how ABB is expanding its portfolio to help companies meet the challenges of the future."

ABB paint atomizer reducesCO2 emissions and VOCs

The RB 1000i-S paint atomizer reduces CO2 and volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions in automotive paint shops by reducing paint waste and overall plant energy consumption through a more efficient painting process. The cost savings can also be significant. For example, if a manufacturer uses 2.5 liters of solvent per car and produces 200,000 cars per plant annually, the RB 1000i-S paint atomizer can help save 50,000 liters of paint per plant due to its improved application efficiency. This corresponds to a direct financial saving of 500,000 US dollars.

New paint atomizer can be optionally upgraded with new ABB painting robot

Customers can order the RB 1000i-S with a new painting robot or purchase a service kit to upgrade their existing RB 1000i by replacing key components such as the bell cup and steering air nozzle. This upgrade benefits the circular economy and maximizes the service life of existing paint atomizers. It also further reduces waste. The new paint atomizer joins other ABB robotic solutions that help customers create a more sustainable and resource-efficient future. These include ABB Robotics' new Energy Efficiency Service, which offers manufacturers a package of advice, analysis and tools to increase the energy efficiency of their robots and enable energy savings of up to 30 percent (further details are available in the associated press release from ABB). In addition, the OmniCoreTM controllers consume up to 20 percent less energy in intensive load cycles thanks to integrated power regeneration and regeneration technology. The Automatic Path Planning function in ABB RobotStudio enables shorter motion durations and reduces energy consumption by up to 30 percent.
