At the international materials conference Copper Alloys 2022, which took place in Düsseldorf at the end of November after a Corona break of almost four years, sustainability and application-oriented topics were high on the agenda.

Growing awareness of the need for more responsible use of resources, environmental stability and health protection have led society and legislation to change the priorities on the agenda. Circular economy, fossil-free energy production and other buzzwords represent this new thinking and are helping to implement new legislation such as the Green Deal in Europe. At the international Copper Alloys 2022 conference, these topics were therefore high on the agenda. More than 100 participants were keen to find out about current trends and developments in the field of copper materials at the Copper Alloys conference, which is held every two years by the Copper Association in cooperation with the Swedish institutes RI.SE and SWERIM, on November 22-23 after an almost four-year break from Corona.

In addition to various key notes on the role of copper materials as an important element in meeting the European sustainability goals, the 26 speakers from industry and academia also addressed numerous application-oriented topics: in particular, aspects of material design and characterization were the focus of many presentations, as were corrosion issues or the topic of lead-free materials and manufacturing processes. With a view to future developments, the topic of digitalization was also highlighted. The application-oriented conference once again enabled the entire copper-related industrial and research landscape to exchange expertise at an international level, which will be continued in two years at Copper Alloys 2024 in Stockholm. The companies Laserline GmbH, Germany, and Thermo-Calc Software AB, Sweden, also presented their product portfolio as sponsors. A summary of the papers is available on the website www.kupfer.de.
