At Laser World of Photonics 2025, the Fraunhofer Institute for Surface Engineering and Thin Films IST will be presenting newly developed coating solutions that offer maximum precision and long-term stability even under extreme conditions.

The focus of the Fraunhofer IST's trade fair appearance at Laser World of Photonics 2025 will include anti-reflective coatings and beam splitters for the medium and long-wave infrared range up to 14 µm wavelength. The coatings were produced using advanced sputtering technology and are characterized by a very high density and special environmental stability. They are crucial for the performance of modern infrared filters and optics in spectroscopy and imaging. "Our coatings not only offer the highest optical performance, but also exceptional stability under extreme environmental conditions," explains Dr. Philipp Farr, Group Manager Precision Optical Coatings at the Fraunhofer IST. Particularly noteworthy is the ability to reliably process even demanding materials such as metal fluorides - a decisive advantage for applications in the high-tech sector.

Fraunhofer IST with many years of experience in optical coatings

With over 15 years of experience in the development and process control of optical coatings, the Fraunhofer IST is one of the leading institutions in this field. The different variants of magnetron sputtering have already been used successfully for some time to produce electrical and optical functional layers, among other things, and also offer great potential for future applications - for example for chemical analysis, in environmental and remote monitoring, aerospace or defense technology. Visitors to Laser 2025 are cordially invited to visit the joint Fraunhofer stand in Hall A2, Stand 415 to find out about the latest developments in person and talk to the experts.
