On the topic of "Battery Cell Manufacturing - Digitized Electrode Manufacturing", Fraunhofer IPA will be holding a seminar in October 2023 that will focus on the production of electrode pastes, quality control and application through to AI solutions in battery cell manufacturing.

In the production of battery electrodes, the production of the paste with which the substrate is coated is of decisive importance for the subsequent processes and the quality of the battery. Digitization of the process data and its evaluation help to significantly reduce reject rates. After all, in the factory of tomorrow, all the equipment needed for battery production will be networked with each other. In the seminar Battery Cell Manufacturing/Digitized Electrode Manufacturing of the Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Engineering and Automation IPA on October 17, 2023 in Stuttgart, the networking of production equipment with inline analytics and digitization of processes for electrode manufacturing will be presented theoretically and practically. Possible AI solutions will be presented for the evaluation of the data, which will be demonstrated in the form of a recommendation of the process parameters for the operator to achieve optimal quality in the dispersion process. Participants will then be able to make a sound assessment of the benefits of networked and digitized processes or to initiate optimization.

Fraunhofer IPA addresses all production engineering issues with its expertise, many years of experience and its personnel and technical/technological resources. Interdisciplinary solutions are developed by 19 departments in the fields of production organization, surface technology, automation and process technology. The Functional Materials department has been working for several years on process technology for dispersing and processing electrode pastes. As a pioneer in application-oriented materials and process research, the department is now one of the largest research groups in the field of functional materials. The target group of the seminar are application and process developers, material scientists and process engineers from the fields of coatings, chemistry, battery cell manufacturing as well as experts who are involved in the formulation, production, characterization and application of electrode suspensions and want to learn about digitized processes and possibilities for AI solutions. After the seminar, participants will master the basics of preparing, characterizing and applying suspensions/pastes for electrode manufacturing and will be able to assess their usefulness. They will learn about innovative mixing and coating technologies as well as inline quality analysis, networking of production, digitalization of processes and integration of AI solutions into the processes.
