The novel, intelligent corrosion protection film ICB from Excor Korrosionsschutz-Technologien und -Produkte GmbH has received the "Special Mention" award in the main category "Excellence in Business to Business" at this year's German Innovation Awards.

The German Innovation Award competition honors products, technologies and services that break new, innovative ground and offer solutions that stand out for their added value for users and the environment. Excor's competition entry meets both of the required criteria: The novel corrosion protection film ICB stands for Intelligent Corrosion Blocker and offers added value to both its users and the environment. This is because the film reacts to the moisture in the air and only releases the corrosion protection active ingredient fei when it is needed. As a result, the protection lasts longer overall and offers a better depot effect than corrosion protection products previously available on the market. The bottom line is that less material is needed. At the same time, the corrosion protection effect is just as effective as with the established VCI active ingredient, which Excor also offers in the form of various corrosion protection solutions.

This intelligent principle also convinced the jury of the German Innovation Awards, which awarded ICB the 'Special Mention'. According to the German Design Council, this award was given to those innovations that convinced the jury with their well thought-out partial aspects, original approaches or ingenious detailed solutions. Excor developed the new active ingredient ICB in its corrosion research laboratory in Dresden. ICB was initially available for aluminum and steel (type Q). Now Excor has expanded its portfolio to include the ICB film type GS, which is specially designed to protect cast iron and steel. The patented ICB active ingredient is initially available as flat, tubular, semi-tubular, gusseted hood, box hood, pouch, pressure seal pouch, cut-to-size, shrink film, bubble wrap and automatic film. This makes Excor's ICB film suitable, for example, as an intermediate layer, for wrapping steel and wooden racks or lattice boxes, as a cover for finished metal goods, as an insert for lattice boxes, small load carriers or crates, for bulk goods, for securing pallets, bundling pipes, rods or profiles and for wrapping coils. The active ingredient vaporizes from the film into the packaging space, settles on the bare metal surfaces and thus forms a protection against corrosion. After removal of the packaging, the inhibitors evaporate without leaving any residue. This is also the main advantage over protective coatings of oils or waxes, which have to be removed at great expense.
