Galvanizing Karger launches logistics center at Bad Wurzach plant

Following the successful takeover of MEGA Pulverbeschichtungen GmbH by Feuerverzinkerei Karger, the Bad Wurzach plant has been operating as a receiving and distribution point for goods since mid-June.
It was a big step for Feuerverzinkerei Karger to take over another company, MEGA Pulverbeschichtungen GmbH, based in Schwarzach/Austria, for the first time in the company's history in March of this year. "We have been thinking about expanding our range of services for some time and powder coating is an ideal complement to hot-dip galvanizing," said Managing Director Wolfgang Karger at the time, explaining the strategic expansion of the Illertiss-based family business, but thoughts regarding the plant in Bad Wurzach, which has been closed since October 2022, also played a major role. "In the meantime, the majority of the MEGA integration has been successfully mastered, so that we can completely cover an order as a transnational group of companies and process the goods quickly and efficiently in the plants," Karger says. Many customers, both of Karger and MEGA, have also responded very well to the significantly expanded portfolio and are increasingly placing orders ranging from galvanizing to powder coating. There is also increasing demand for fine plastering and sandblasting as pre-treatment of the parts to be finished.
"In addition to the option of delivering goods to our plants ourselves, we also offer one-stop shopping with collection and delivery to the customer," adds Uli Karger, Technical Managing Director of the Karger Group. In order to make the internal logistics with over 20 vehicles even more efficient and also to optimize the transports to Schwarzach in Austria, which take place several times a week, the Bad Wurzach plant has been busy again since 10 June. "For the time being, we are using the site and the infrastructure there purely as a logistics center for receiving and distributing goods," says Karger. If demand increases and new customers are acquired as a result of the MEGA takeover, it is also conceivable that the plant will once again operate as a fourth galvanizing site, says Karger hopefully, adding that the plant can be ramped up again within a few weeks with the procurement of new zinc.
