BASF at the Battery Show Europe 2025 with coating solutions

BASF is presenting a range of surface treatment and coating solutions for the battery technology industry at the Battery Show Europe 2025. These include thin-film technologies that protect metal surfaces from corrosion and improve their durability and adhesion properties.
BASF offers a range of innovative coating solutions for optimal protection and improved performance in a variety of platform designs and battery systems. These solutions, ranging from pretreatment to cathodic dip coating (CathoGuard) and insulating varnishes, are instrumental in achieving the desired results. One outstanding solution is the environmentally friendly Oxsilan thin film technology offered through the global Surface Treatment business unit of BASF's Coatings Division under the Chemetall brand. This innovative technology applies a uniform and protective coating to metal surfaces, improving durability, corrosion resistance and adhesion properties.
In addition, Chemetall develops chrome-free surface treatment solutions for copper foil. These innovative and sustainable processes help to improve the adhesion of the active battery material to the electrode and protect the foil from oxidation during transportation and storage. BASF Coatings has also recently launched a research and development project to support battery manufacturing in Europe and to simplify and improve the sustainability of recycling processes. The aim is to create an innovative binder for the cathode coating of lithium-ion batteries that serves as an alternative to PFAS-containing materials. BASF's portfolio of surface treatment and coating solutions not only provides corrosion protection, but can also improve the performance and lifetime of battery cells and pack components, enabling the development of further improved sustainable energy storage systems and electric vehicles. BASF will be exhibiting at the Battery Show Europe at booth 10-E110.
