Ebbinghaus celebrates 100 years

On March 21, 1923, Ernst Ebbinghaus laid the foundation stone for today's Ebbinghaus Verbund GmbH & Co. KG in Solingen. The great-grandfather of today's company owner Marco Ebbinghaus gave up his secure position as master craftsman of an outside company and founded Ernst Ebbinghaus KG.
As a scissors hardening shop, the Ernst Ebbinghaus company was entirely focused on the needs of the Solingen cutlery industry and was quickly expanded to include surface protection for Solingen products. At that time, box knives and scissors were still dipped by hand in black asphalt varnish or painted with a brush and then dried in ovens heated with coal. The first important technological step that followed was spray painting, which then became the most widely used process for achieving color surface protection for almost all branches of industry. In the workrooms of Ernst Ebbinghaus KG, the production program was now expanded to include surface protection for bicycle and motorcycle frames, as well as their rims. Pocket knife handles and lawn mower parts were also spray-painted in large quantities and then baked. In the following decades, the company experienced economic challenges and constant technological progress in surface technology for coating materials and products.
Today, the company, which has since become Ebbinghaus Verbund Management- und Dienstleistungs GmbH & Co. KG, can look back on 100 years of company history with its central location in Solingen, Germany, including an R&D technical center, and the production plants Oftec Oberflächentechnik GmbH & Co. KG in Hagenbach, Germany, and Ebbinghaus Styria Coating GmbH in Graz, Austria. As a coating specialist, the company serves customers from a wide range of industries and offers services in the areas of cathodic dip coating, powder coating, wet painting, duplex processes, galvanizing as well as cleaning, paint stripping, etc. Whether as contract coating in its own plants or as an operator model at the customer's site: Ebbinghaus refines surfaces and thus creates quality and long-term value retention.
