Covestro will be showcasing its comprehensive portfolio of innovative and sustainable solutions for the coatings and adhesives industry at the European Coatings Show (ECS) 2025 in Nuremberg. The company will be presenting an automated laboratory and its new direct coating technology at the trade fair.

Covestro will be exhibiting at the European Coatings Show from 25 - 27 March 2025 (Hall 4A, Stand 438) and will announce, among other things, an automated laboratory for the optimization of formulations with Covestro binders and crosslinkers for coatings and adhesives. The new facility will operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The aim is to run tens of thousands of tests per year. In terms of number, variety, precision and test speed, this is a new benchmark in the productivity of in-house application technology. Another advantage: the automated laboratory generates a large amount of structured data. As a result, knowledge of formulation options and influencing factors continues to grow rapidly. The collected data is evaluated in combination with the measurement data from existing tests using special machine learning algorithms in order to further improve formulations. Experts from application technology and from segments such as automotive, printing & packaging or construction & architecture will be at the ECS to discuss new joint approaches with customers that the laboratory now makes possible.

Direct Coating: Solutions from Covestro for the automotive industry

With its innovative Direct Coating technology, Covestro will be presenting a pioneering solution for the automotive industry at ECS 2025, which, according to the company, fundamentally simplifies the coating process and makes it more sustainable. This technology enables the direct coating of plastic components in the injection molding machine without pre-treatment or separate painting and drying. At the ECS, Covestro will be exhibiting products manufactured using this process, for example.

Focus on sustainability at Covestro

Covestro wants to focus entirely on the circular economy. This includes the use of alternative raw materials, the switch to green energy and the development of recycling technologies and recyclable products. To make more sustainable products easier to recognize, the company has introduced the "CQ" label. This stands for "Circular Intelligence". Products labeled in this way contain at least 25% alternative raw materials. Some examples that are used in coatings and adhesives will be on display at the ECS. For example, food packaging coated with fully recyclable, partially bio-based resins. Or water-based polyurethane dispersions for textile printing.
