Michael Heilig new group manager for bonding and surface technology at SKZ

The "Adhesive Bonding and Surface Technology" research group at the SKZ Plastics Center has been given a new head as of January 2023. Michael Heilig will take over the group consisting of four employees.
The research group "Adhesive Bonding and Surface Technology" focuses on industry-related research and services in the field of surface treatment and its characterization, adhesive selection, bonded joints and their analyses. In his new function, Michael Heilig supports Dr. Eduard Kraus, head of the research area "Joining and Surface Technology". "Within the groups, there will continue to be a close thematic and technical exchange in order to exploit synergies and keep continuing education up to date. Future topics such as joining recyclates and dejoining plastic components can be tackled with high impact and implemented even better," says Kraus.
Michael Heilig completed his master's degree in functional materials at Julius Maximilian University in Würzburg by 2014 and was awarded the SKZ Young Scientist Award for his thesis in 2015. Since 2014, he has worked as a research assistant at SKZ in the field of "Joining and Surface Technology". His previous research topics include surface modification and characterization, tribology of plastics, and welding and bonding of additively manufactured plastic components. In addition to his work at SKZ, he is an honorary working group leader of the "Surface Technology" working group in the Franconian Plastics Network (KNF).
