ZVO position paper on the EU-US customs agreement

In August 2025, the ZVO took a position on the planned customs agreement between the EU and the USA. In principle, the association welcomes the efforts of the EU Commission and the US government to reduce existing trade conflicts and strengthen the transatlantic dialog.
A reliable and cooperative relationship between the EU and the US is of central importance for the prosperity, economic resilience and technological sovereignty of both sides - especially in times of global power shifts and increasing geopolitical tensions.
The German Surface Technology Association (ZVO) advocates a balanced trade agreement that is well thought out in terms of industrial policy and strategically embedded. Trade liberalization must not be an end in itself - it must contribute to strengthening European technology and production locations, deepening transatlantic partnerships and sustainably securing the shared prosperity of both regions: To the ZVO position paper EU-US customs agreement
