The draft standard DIN EN ISO 2081 "Metallic and other inorganic coatings - Electroplated coatings on iron and steel using zinc treated with chromium(VI)-containing solutions (ISO/DIS 2081:2024)", German and English version prEN ISO 2081:2024, has been published with issue date 2024-10 and can be commented on.

The draft standard DIN EN ISO 2081 specifies requirements for electroplated zinc coatings on ferrous materials with additional treatment using hexavalent chromium compositions. It contains information to be provided to the galvanizing company by the client, as well as the requirements for heat treatment before and after galvanic metal deposition. It does not apply to zinc coatings on sheet, strip or wire in unworked form; on narrow coil springs or for purposes other than corrosion protection or decoration. This document does not specify requirements for the surface condition of the base metal prior to electroplating. However, defects in the surface of the base metal may adversely affect the appearance and serviceability of zinc coatings. The coating thickness applicable to threaded fasteners may be limited by dimensional requirements such as class or fit.

The responsible national standardization committee is the working committee NA 062-01-76 AA "Chemical and electrochemical coatings" in the DIN Standards Committee for Materials Testing (NMP). The document can be obtained from Beuth Verlag GmbH in Berlin. The draft can be commented on in the draft standard portal until November 13, 2024, according to the German Surface Technology Association (ZVO).
