J. Wagner has won second place in the Stuttgart Surface Technology Award "Die Oberfläche" 2024 with its "Flowsense" powder quantity control system. The company was the only technology in the powder coating sector to be awarded the prestigious prize.

The Stuttgart Surface Technology Award "The Surface" recognizes outstanding developments from the entire industry that deal with surface treatment and finishing technologies. According to the expert jury, the most remarkable aspects of Flowsense are the increase in productivity, the savings in powder coating, the improvement in quality and the reduction in CO2 emissions. With Flowsense, Wagner has succeeded in reproducibly controlling the powder coating process and thus achieving consistently high-quality surfaces of consistent quality.

Compared to wet paint coating, the powder coating process used to be more of a blind flight in terms of powder feed, where the set output quantities were neither known nor constant in the medium term due to wear and other process parameters. Users compensated for this by accepting higher tolerances or more frequent manual inspection processes, which was not a satisfactory situation. Flowsense from Wagner, on the other hand, acts as an autopilot for powder coating, navigating the coating process independently and leading to better coating results. This frees up the user to take care of other tasks. The award ceremony took place during SurfaceTechnology Germany 2024.
