Wacker with validated climate neutrality target for 2045

The independent Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) has validated Wacker's goal of achieving climate neutrality by 2045. This makes Wacker one of the 15 first chemical companies worldwide with a verified climate neutrality target of "Net Zero 2045".
With its verified "Net Zero 2045" climate neutrality target, the chemical company Wacker is demonstrating that its entire greenhouse gas reduction pathway is in line with the 1.5°C target of the Paris Agreement. "Wacker is a true pioneer with its climate protection targets," says Christian Hartel, CEO of Wacker. "The validation proves that we are serious and on the right track. Our production will be climate-neutral by 2045." Science-based targets are science-based reduction targets that show companies how much and how quickly they need to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions in order to help combat the effects of climate change. They are in line with the Paris Agreement's goal of limiting global warming to a maximum of 1.5°C by 2050 compared to pre-industrial levels.
Wacker already set itself climate protection targets for 2030 in 2021 and had them validated by the SBTi. Among other things, absolute CO2 emissions in the Group are to be reduced by 50 percent by 2030. To improve its own ecological footprint and make a substantial contribution to limiting climate change, Wacker is focusing on two areas of action. "Firstly, we are working to further minimize resource consumption and greenhouse gas emissions with regard to our own products and processes," explains Hartel. "On the other hand, we offer numerous attractive product solutions that also support our customers in the transformation to climate neutrality." For example, Wacker produces polysilicon, the most important raw material for solar cells. The company also supplies thermally conductive specialty silicones for electric vehicles and innovative binders for thermal insulation systems.
