The EU Commission's Green Deal will keep politicians, industry and society as a whole very busy over the next few years. Not everyone is yet aware of what this means for the chemical industry, for example. The new brochure "Color in the Green Deal" published by the German Coatings and Printing Inks Association (VdL) therefore aims to focus on this major project for the industry.

According to the EU Commission, the Green Deal is intended to lay the foundation for a sustainable European Union - and to do so promptly. The legislative machinery is running at full speed: chemicals strategy, ecological footprint or circular economy are buzzwords, which, however, still leave many questions unanswered in detail. Even interested parties are quickly confused by the sheer volume of abbreviations and technical terms for all kinds of regulatory requirements and plans. But one thing is certain: the Green Deal will keep politicians, companies in the paint industry and all of us very busy for the next few years. But not all market participants are yet fully aware of the transformation of the economy that lies ahead, especially for the chemical industry in Europe.

The new VdL brochure "Color in the Green Deal" provides an overview of the most important policy areas of the Green Deal for the industry on almost 50 pages and attempts to provide answers and requirements for successful regulation. In a clear and competent manner, the four most important areas for the paint industry are presented, analyzed and their importance is highlighted. At the end of each chapter, a comprehensible summary concisely classifies the position of the VdL and its members. After presenting these EU plans and concepts, the second half of the booklet focuses on products and topics that the paint industry has been dealing with innovatively and progressively for years, and with which the goals of the Green Deal are already being supported today. After all, sustainability has been actively practiced in the paint industry for decades, as evidenced by the five industry goals aligned with the UN's Global Sustainability Goals (SDGs), which are presented once again. "The VdL will continue to accompany, analyze and comment on the EU measures for its members in the future and will always make it clear that the Green Deal needs paints, coatings and printing inks," summarizes Chief Executive Dr. Martin Kanert.
