Dürr is expanding its range of manual spray guns with a new electrostatic air spray gun (ESTA Gun). The new EcoGun AS MAN DC/EC enables more sustainable painting, as it reduces overspray by around 40 percent and ensures a more efficient painting process.

The new paint spray gun from Dürr is ideal for applications in which workpieces such as pipes, wheel rims, two-wheelers or train parts are painted manually. The advantage here lies in the electrostatic charging of the paint or the components. Dürr offers the spray gun in two versions: The EcoGun AS MAN DC (direct charge) works with an electrode on the spray gun needle, which charges the paint and then applies it to a grounded component. With the EcoGun AS MAN EC (external charge), the paint particles pass through an electrostatic field in order to be positively charged. These paint particles are then attracted to the negatively charged workpiece. The electrostatics reduce paint consumption, as the attraction between the particles and the workpiece results in less overspray during the painting process. As a result, the EcoGun AS MAN DC/EC uses up to 40 percent less paint compared to conventional air spray guns. This also significantly reduces paint consumption costs. At the same time, the painting process is accelerated, as the electrostatic charge creates a so-called wrap-around effect. "The charged paint particles follow the electric field lines. This means that surfaces on the back of the workpiece can also be reached," explains Tom Reiner, Product Engineer at Dürr.

The maximum charging voltage for Dürr's new spray gun is -60 kV for the version with internal charging and -30 kV for the version with external charging. This enables a high application efficiency. The electrostatic voltage level during painting work is indicated by an integrated LED high-voltage light. However, the manual air spray gun can also be used without high voltage and achieves fine atomization and precise application in this state. The optimized design of the EcoGun AS MAN DC/EC offers additional comfort and functionality. The handle shape has been adapted to the natural shape of the palm of the hand to enable easier and more ergonomic handling and prevent slipping. The composite housing guarantees low weight, a long service life and, as the gun consists of few individual parts, easy maintenance is possible. Visitors to the Dürr stand at PaintExpo 2024 (Hall 3, Stand 3320) can get hands-on experience and information about the EcoGun AS MAN DC/EC. The manual spray gun is already available.
