Tramaco: New Conductive Functional Coating DJIC-AS01

Tramaco is now marketing DJIC-AS01, a functional coating system based on a water-dispersible polyester-polyurethane and the conductive polymer complex Pedot:PSS. The coating combines a defined surface resistance with high transparency.
With the DJIC-AS01, Tramaco is expanding its portfolio to include a coating solution for applications in which electrostatic charge must be reliably reduced and dissipated in a controlled manner. Test results classify the product as ESD-dissipative. As such, DJIC-AS01 is primarily intended for manufacturers and processors of electronic packaging, technical films, protective covers, and machine covers. The conductive effect is created by a network of PEDOT:PSS in the dried coating film. The polyurethane matrix ensures film formation, adhesion, and flexibility. Electrical conductivity increases with increasing coating thickness. Surface resistances of approximately 10⁷ ohms per square at 13.7 µm, 10⁶.³ ohms at 22.8 µm, and 10⁵.⁸ ohms at 32.0 µm dry film thickness were measured.
High-Transparency ESD Coating
With the appropriate coating thickness, thin and transparent functional layers can be achieved. The surface resistance can be adjusted to the specific application by controlling the application method, dilution, drying process, and dry film thickness. Possible substrates include PET, PVC, glass, and pretreated polyolefins such as PE and PP. Depending on the substrate, a multilayer structure with pretreatment or an adhesion primer, as well as an additional protective layer, may be advisable. Tramaco recommends first testing DJIC-AS01 in a controlled coating trial on the intended substrate. In addition to surface resistance, particular attention should be paid to evaluating transparency, adhesion, abrasion and scratch resistance, as well as resistance to water and cleaning agents.
