Laser Components: Thin-Film Polarizers for High-Power Lasers

Laser Components develops custom thin-film polarizers for high-power lasers. Precise coating designs improve beam quality and stability and enable precise control of polarization.
Thin-film polarizers (TFP) separate the polarizations of a laser beam through their sophisticated coating design by transmitting p-polarized light and reflecting s-polarized light. Within the laser resonator, they select the desired polarization, thereby contributing to optimal beam quality of the laser. Laser Components develops and manufactures complex thin-film polarizers for a wide range of customer-specific applications involving high-power lasers in industry and science. One key application is the efficient power control of linearly polarized lasers in combination with waveplates.
Precise Coatings for High Laser Power
The portfolio also includes complex solutions for separating and combining polarizations across one or more wavelengths. The integration of additional optical functions, such as HR/AR coatings, enables precise control of polarization. Laser Components specifies transmission, reflection, and other optical properties exactly according to customer specifications and ensures compliance with them. The polarizers are manufactured on-site in Olching using the IAD or IBS process. Both processes enable precisely controlled layer thicknesses for complex designs. Broadband monitoring during the coating process ensures a consistently high quality standard and high reproducibility of the coating design. In high-power laser systems, Laser Components’ thin-film polarizers excel due to their high laser-induced breakdown threshold (LIDT) at high power densities. This ensures maximum process reliability in the laser system.
