Fraunhofer IWS shows sandblasting with light at Parts2clean

At Parts2clean 2025, Fraunhofer IWS will be presenting "sandblasting with light", an alternative to particle-based blasting. The process uses laser technology to clean and pre-treat surfaces.
At Parts2clean 2025, the Fraunhofer Institute for Material and Beam Technology IWS will use an exhibit consisting of various materials to demonstrate the potential of lasers for cleaning and pretreating surfaces. Examples include the removal of paint and rust or "sandblasting with light" as an economical alternative to particle-based blasting. Lasers are interesting for almost all industries. This is because the process does not require any cleaning media, thus reducing disposal costs and can be integrated into automated production lines.
Sandblasting with light as a versatile tool
One tool offers many possibilities - the result can be finely adjusted from pure cleaning to defined roughening and structuring as a pre-treatment for subsequent processes such as joining or coating. The institute develops customer-specific, economical processes and associated system solutions. Fraunhofer IWS will be exhibiting at Parts2clean 2025 in hall 10, booth E28.
