A luxury yacht whose white hull does not shine in the light of the Mediterranean? Or a grand piano whose black surface does not reflect the pianist? Actually unthinkable. A flawless, high-gloss lacquer surface that conveys absolute high quality is a must for such products. To achieve such a result, surface specialist Oltrogge from Bielefeld offers polyester spraying systems for precious wood and carbon fiber coating.
Coating with the aid of polyester spraying systems is always used when flawless, high-gloss surfaces are required. The coating of precious wood or carbon fibers can be found in numerous areas of application, especially for products in the luxury segment. In addition to high-quality interior elements for automotive accessories in the premium and luxury vehicle sector, this also includes aircraft interiors, yacht and shipbuilding, the production of high-quality furniture and the manufacture of pianos or grand pianos.
Perfect mixing and atomization for a first-class surface
For these special applications, surface specialist Oltrogge from Bielefeld offers the PSG 8 polyester spraying system. With this system, polyester paint is pumped via a double diaphragm pump and dosing is carried out using a pressure regulator. The peroxide hardener is metered and delivered via a special 4-liter tank, whereby the quantity can also be adjusted via a precision pressure regulator. The system is also available as an option in the PSG-8H version with heater: it enables easier application of very viscous material and thus provides an even surface.
Choosing the right polyester spray gun is essential for a perfect result. This was developed by Oltrogge itself and works according to the external mixing principle: the peroxide hardener is injected into the atomizing air channel, while the horn air remains without hardener admixture. This ensures maximum availability of the system.
No shine without sanding
However, even with the best mixing and atomization technology, a high-gloss surface is not created immediately after the material is applied. Instead, it must be sanded several times afterwards - up to 50 percent of the layer thickness is removed again after the material has hardened. Once this process is complete, the result is perfect. The finished sanded surface is characterized by its durability, UV resistance and longevity. This makes it ideal for applications that have to withstand heavy use or long-term exposure to sunlight, for example. (OM-5/24)
